SEAI's heating controls grant covers upgrades that give you better control over when and where heat is produced. Qualifying installations typically include:
Programmable room thermostat
Set temperature targets by time of day — stop heating an empty house.
Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs)
Control heat room by room — reduce output in unused spaces.
Time and temperature zone controls
Independently control upstairs/downstairs (or other zones) on different schedules.
Smart heating controls
App-controlled systems (e.g. Hive, Nest, Honeywell) — often qualify; confirm with contractor.

No prior heating controls grant
Cannot claim again if this grant was previously claimed at the property.
Cannot be combined with a heat pump grant
SEAI does not allow this grant to be claimed alongside a heat pump grant — heat pump systems include their own integrated controls. If you have an existing heat pump or are claiming the heat pump grant, you are not eligible.
SEAI-registered contractor
Must be installed by a contractor registered with SEAI for heating controls.
Apply before work starts
Written approval required from SEAI before any installation begins.
Do not start installation before written SEAI approval.
